The
most logical utility device for flue gas desulfurization was
an electrostatic precipitator. The advantages to clients included
low pressure drop, low power consumption and high efficiency.
These overshadowed any other utility device for flue gas desulfurization.
Limited fan capacity and downtime also favored the use of
an electrostatic precipitator for flue gas desulfurization,
since electrostatic precipitators have only 0.5" pressure
drop and are low maintenance utility devices. PPC personnel
were sure electrostatic precipitator proceedings would clean
the gases, but weren't sure what other problem issues the
electrostatic precipitator would introduce. This application
was unique in that the gases were recirculated. PPC opted
for processing the entire gas stream because of the various
analysis unknowns.
